Hey guys, I just finished putting together V.1.0 for getting my Zune HD hooked up in my ‘04 Xfire. This was mostly done for proof of concept, but I think it turned out pretty well and I have a bunch of ideas on where I want to go with it. I’ve been rocking with my Zune for years now, and absolutely love the software and UX. I’ve been kicking around this idea for a while, but was initially turned off because the original Zunes don’t automatically switch over to video-out when in the dock. This was fixed with the Zune HD and HD dock, so I finally starting tearing apart my dash . It’s pretty straightforward for now: The dock is powered by the USB-out on the head unit. Audio goes to the AUX-in on the Kenwood. And video goes out to the 8.9 inch display. This setup would be especially easy to run with for the double-din units out there, but I’m not ready to mod the center dash just yet to make that work . Next steps are to fab a track system on the center dash, so that I can slide the screen up & down. I’m also going to pick an IR extender so that I can keep the Zune tucked away but still point the remote at the dash. I’ll make sure to take a bunch more pictures and videos when I’m working on that, to show how everything is connected.
Here is some video of the the Zune HD from its 8/22 preview weekend. You see a pretty decent walkthrough of the device interface. You also see its HD playback capability as two devices play three different 720p HD videos, while using the new HD-AV dock. Wi-fi wasn’t working but you do see a quick shot of an ‘apps’ section under the Marketplace heading. Also, towards the end of the video, notice how the ‘nearby’ section usually found under the Social heading is missing. Overall, this is a great preview of the good things coming on September 15th. I just received it by FedEX today and i was excited, so i made this unboxing video of my zune hd 16 gb originals, now those who dont know what originals mean, it’s where you can make full customization on ur zune. u can add an art piece and engrave letters in the back of ur zune. This is a review on Microsoft’s Zune HD and Zune AV Dock. First we unbox the Zune and you get to see what’s inside the box. You will then see us unbox the AV Dock which lets you charge your Zune and sync songs to it. Lastly we do a quick review on the Zune HD.
